THE PARK’S ROADS (MURGIA TIMONE)

 

 

An epic journey through prehistoric archaeology, pastoral architecture, and the world’s most famous panoramic view.

  • Description: This itinerary takes you to the beating heart of the Murgia Materana Park. Starting from our facility, you’ll pedal on e-bikes across a plateau suspended in time. The first stop is Jazzo Gattini, a historic fortified sheepfold that is now a symbol of the local pastoral culture. From there, the route winds towards the incredible Neolithic Village of Murgia Timone, where you can experience the ancient origins of this area firsthand. Along the edge of the canyon, you’ll reach the spectacular Rupestrian Churches carved into the rock and, finally, the legendary Belvedere, the ultimate panoramic point for admiring the Sassi of Matera in all their majesty.
    Difficulty: Medium (A mix of secondary paved roads and easy dirt trails, made accessible to all thanks to our e-bikes).
    Duration: approximately 3 hours

The perfect meeting of contemporary art, rock spirituality,

and primordial landscapes.

  • Description: This itinerary will take you to discover Murgecchia, a fascinating area of ​​the Park where stone tells stories of different eras. Starting from the evocative Sanctuary of Palomba, you will pass a spectacular abandoned tuff quarry, now transformed into the evocative Sculpture Park, an open-air museum where contemporary art blends with rock. Pedaling towards the Neolithic Village of Murgecchia, you will step back in time thousands of years, before reaching some of the most intimate and scenic spiritual sites in the area: the crypt of Madonna della Scordata, the splendid rock church of Madonna delle Vergini, and San Giovanni (S. Elia), overlooking the Gravina canyon with a spectacular view of the Sassi.
    Difficulty: Medium (Panoramic dirt roads and hilly trails, agile and fun to explore with the push of our e-bikes).

TOUR OF THE SASSI AND HISTORIC CENTER

 

 

A total immersion in the heart of Matera, amidst the elegance of the 17th-century

plain and the timeless charm of the ancient stone districts.

  • Description: The perfect route for those who want to capture the soul of the city. Astride our e-bikes, you’ll move effortlessly through the climbs and descents of the Sassi, effortlessly conquering every slope. We’ll pass through the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, exploring the neighborhoods, historic cave dwellings, divers, cisterns, and the most spectacular views of the Gravina. The tour then winds toward the elegant Historic Center (the “Piano”), among baroque squares, majestic churches, and stately buildings that dominate the city from above. A concentration of beauty, history, and culture within easy reach of your pedals.
    Difficulty: Easy (Each route is on paved streets and pedestrian areas; the ups and downs of the old town are a breeze with pedal-assist).
    Duration: Approximately 2 hours
    Highlights:
    Complete exploration of the two historic districts: Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso.
    The hidden alleys and unique architecture of Civita, the oldest part of Matera. You’ll pass through the city’s most significant squares, such as Piazza Duomo, Piazza del Sedile, Piazza Duomo e Palombaro Lundo, Castello, and more.

Cycle through the history of international cinema, from Hollywood blockbusters to Italy’s most beloved TV series.

  • Description: Did you know that Matera has lent its historic alleyways to Jerusalem, ancient Rome and even breathtaking secret agent chases? This tour will guide you, riding our e-bikes, to discover the most iconic film sets in the city. You will relive the mystical and intense atmospheres of “The Passion” by Mel Gibson, you will retrace the curves and alleys where James Bond’s Aston Martin whizzed by in “007: No Time to Die”, and you will recognize the squares and buildings where the much-loved deputy prosecutor Imma Tataranni solves her cases. An original experience to look at Matera through the eyes of a great director.
    Difficulty:  Easy (Entirely urban, winds between the Sassi and the historic center along paved streets).
    Duration: approximately 2 hours

    The views over the Gravina that were the backdrop to Mel Gibson’s Jerusalem in “The Passion”.

you closer to the gastronomic excellence of our land.

  • Description: Who says cycling is all about hard work? This delicious tour is designed to help you discover Matera through its authentic aromas and flavors. On our e-bikes, we’ll move easily through the historic alleys and liveliest areas of the city, stopping at historic bakeries to taste the legendary warm and fragrant Pane di Matera PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) bread. We’ll experience the authentic atmosphere of the local market, among the stalls selling fruit, vegetables, and traditional cheeses, and then indulge in the king of local street food: freshly fried panzerotto. And to finish on a high note? A taste of authentic local grilled meat. An itinerary for true gourmets, where effort is a thing of the past thanks to pedal assistance!
    Difficulty: Easy (Entirely urban, with frequent and delicious stops to recharge your batteries).

THE WAY OF WATER

 

 

Follow the invisible journey of the drop: a dive into the millennia-old

engineering that quenched the thirst of the stone city.

  • Description: Did you know that beneath the streets of Matera lies a masterpiece of survival and ingenuity? This fascinating itinerary literally follows the “path of the water”. Riding our e-bikes, we will descend from the top of the city to the bottom, just like the rain used to do. We will discover how the ancient inhabitants managed to capture every single drop, guiding it from the roofs of the houses, through a complex network of channels dug into the rock, up to the large public and private underground cisterns. A unique tour to understand the true hydraulic miracle that made the Sassi a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    Difficulty:  Easy (We will face the natural differences in height of the city going downhill and go back up without any effort thanks to the power of our e-bikes).
    Duration: approximately 2 hours
    Strong points:
    Understand first-hand the ingenious visible canalization system between the roofs and streets of the Sassi.
    The exploration of architectural differences in height, from the “Piano” to the lowest points of the canyon.
    The historical story of how man managed to adapt to an arid territory, transforming it into a perfect ecosystem.

THE ROAD OF SAN NICOLA ALL’OFRA AND THE BAT CAVE

 

 

An adventure in the ancestral heart of the Murgia, among mysterious prehistoric caves

and spectacular rock formations overlooking the canyon.

  • Description: This itinerary is designed for true explorers and those who want to connect with the wildest, most ancient side of Matera. Leaving the asphalt, we’ll venture on e-bikes along the Murgia trails to the majestic Bat Cave, one of the most important archaeological sites in the area, inhabited since the Paleolithic. Immediately afterward, the route offers one of the area’s most incredible surprises: the San Nicola all’Ofra complex. It’s an entire cave village carved into the rock on multiple levels, suspended on the wall of the Gravina. An extraordinarily evocative place, where the silence is interrupted only by the wind and the flight of birds of prey.
    Difficulty: Medium / Challenging (It follows dirt trails and naturalistic sections that require a minimum of attention while riding, but the push of the e-bike makes even the steepest climbs accessible).
    Duration: approximately 3.5 hours
    Highlights:
    The thrill of looking out over the spectacular and monumental entrance to the Bat Cave.

THE ROAD OF THE OASIS AND THE CRYPT

 

 

From the tranquility of the nature reserve to the splendor of rock art: an unforgettable extra-urban adventure.

  • Description: If you’re looking to venture beyond the city limits and experience the freedom of nature, this extra-urban itinerary is the perfect choice. We’ll leave Matera behind us to pedal along quiet country roads, surrounded by golden fields and rolling hills, until we reach the splendid Oasis of San Giuliano (a protected nature reserve where silence and biodiversity reign supreme). From here, the route will lead us to one of the most precious historical wonders of our region: the Crypt of Original Sin. Considered the “Sistine Chapel of rock churches,” this extraordinary cave frescoed in the 9th century AD will leave you breathless with the beauty and state of preservation of its thousand-year-old paintings.
    Difficulty: Medium (A longer and more sporty route than the urban ones, but totally enjoyable and stress-free thanks to the support of our e-bikes).
    Duration: half a day (about 4 hours)
    Highlights:
    A bike ride immersed in the pristine nature of the San Giuliano Oasis protected reserve.
    A guided tour of the incredible Crypt of Original Sin (a unique jewel in the world).
    The hilly views typical of the Lucanian landscape, far from the chaos and traffic.
