Children’s Trekking in the Matera Murgia Park (Little Explorers of the Murgia)
A trek designed to stimulate curiosity and direct contact with nature.
We will walk along scenic trails and shaded areas, through Mediterranean scrub and ancient pastoral caves. Along the way, the children, guided by an expert environmental hiking guide, will discover:
- the tracks and signs of wild animals;
- the aromatic and medicinal plants typical of the Murgia;
- the rocks and marine fossils that tell the geological history of the area;
- legends and stories connected to the “Gravine” and the shepherds of old.
The excursion concludes with a time for outdoor observation and play, allowing children to experience the Murgia in a fun and respectful way.
Starting point: Iazzo Gattini parking area, Matera (to be confirmed at the time of booking)
Location:Parco della Murgia Materana – anoramic area between the Gravina and Masseria Radogna (the starting point may vary depending on the season and the age of the participants).
Duration: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
Distance and elevation gain Circular route of approximately 3 km – minimal elevation gain (80 m)
Difficulty: Easy – suitable for children aged 6 to 12 and families
Recommended equipment: Trekking or athletic shoes with a gripped sole, hat, water (at least 1 L), light snack, sunscreen, and comfortable clothing.
