The Water Trail
1993: Matera, UNESCO World Heritage Site: “The history of Matera is closely tied to water.”
The trail aims to help visitors perceive the evolution and, consequently, the history of the city of the Sassi.
Surrounded by captivating landscapes, visitors embark on a journey through time and knowledge, with water as the true protagonist.
During the trail, references will be made to the methods of water collection used in the past.
The city bases its existence on a complex system of water collection, drawn both from the sky and the ground.
The “historical peculiarities” of Matera are hidden right beneath itself, underground, and visiting them can only evoke fascination and emotion,
Aquifers, the Ferdinandea Fountain, Grabiglioni… These are just a few of the “protagonists” of its history…
