THE CARRUBO

The experience of our guest begins right from the spaces themselves, which are surprisingly able to tell, in every corner, a different story from Matera’s ancient or even recent past – each room evokes an area of the Park of the Rock‑hewn Churches and from here suggested walks start, allowing guests to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

On returning from the excursion, our guests can take some time for themselves, relaxing in our Turkish bath set in a hypogean environment, where some fossils embedded in the rock can still be admired.

The spaces have been restored without altering the nature of these ancient places, using only eco‑sustainable materials, with special attention to the contrast between designer furnishings and reclaimed pieces.

Our project starts from exploring the local area and involving high‑level expertise capable of narrating and sharing only “real” things, where the cultural, historical and natural elements of Matera truly emerge.

The goal is to enhance the uniqueness and richness of the city and its precious surroundings. Just think of the more than 140 rock‑hewn churches scattered throughout the Sassi and the “gravine” canyons.

To shape their own experience, our guest can:

– book an excursion
– book a workout session in a cave gym
– take part in a cooking class to learn how to prepare some traditional local dishes and taste them paired with excellent local wines
– take part in a show cooking experience, starting from purchasing raw ingredients in the city’s best artisanal shops
– enjoy an immersive experience through multimedia content (VR, AR, 360‑degree video, 3D video, etc.)

Visiting a place and “living it” means having an engaging experience made of emotions, knowledge and skills, from which to take home a positive and pleasant memory.

The aim is to let the guest – or rather “temporary inhabitant” – live as a true **protagonist**.

Il Carrubo will take care of organizing these experiences by listening to and interpreting the needs, tastes and desires of our temporary inhabitants, who are actively and consciously involved, delving into the history, art, traditions and customs of our territory.
