The rooms of Residenza Il Carrubo are constructed of thick squared tuff ashlars, with barrel vaults; some of exceptional size are underground and carved into the calcareous tuff rock.
All rooms have independent ground-floor access, some from a private courtyard. In each room, the bedspreads and pillowcases, with colors reminiscent of terracotta and the hues of the sky, are made of raw linen, hand-crafted in tailoring workshops. The cotton curtains are finished by hand with original crochet lace.
The interior design, a respectful and minimalist approach, is reflected in the furnishings.
Il Carrubo is a project located in the heart of Matera’s historic center: the Sassi. Of the eight spaces that make up the complex, four are guest rooms, while the others are spaces for wellness activities, meetings, and events aimed at promoting local knowledge.
Guests can experience a unique journey that explores the human and cultural history of the Sassi and the Park of Rupestrian Churches, of which the Sassi are part. These sites bear witness to and recount centuries of life.
The modern and contemporary touch blends with the traditional spaces after careful restoration.
Sleeping in Matera in the Sassi: a unique experience!
